DAY 2 of Holiday Yoga-Mountain Pose

Today’s Holiday Yoga Pose is Tadasana- Mountain Pose

Tadasana is a simple pose that can be done at any time.  Try it when you get up in the morning before you start your day or  if you need a rest during the day.

Some of the many benefits of Tadasana include improved posture, balance and focus. This active posture helps create more space within the body and helps improve breathing, digestion and circulation. It can help reduce back pain and alleviate tension in the body while strengthening the thighs, knees, abdomen and buttocks.  Mountain Pose also helps invigorate the mind and increase energy.

TADASANA- MOUNTAIN POSE

 

  1. Stand up straight with your feet firmly planted on the ground, placing your feet together with your big toes touching or slightly apart. Balance your weight on both feet.
  2. Firm your thigh muscles and lift the knee caps, while keeping the lower belly soft and imagine a line of energy all the way up from your feet through your legs, torso, neck, head, and out through the crown of your head.
  3. Press your shoulder blades into your back and release them down your back. Keeping your rib cage relaxed, lift the top of your sternum straight toward the ceiling. Widen your collarbones and let your arms hang down beside the torso.
  4. Balance the crown of your head directly over the center of your pelvis,  relaxing  your throat and mouth with eyes looking forward.
  5. Stay in the pose for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, keeping your breath smooth and easy.
