Balloon Breathing to Relieve Holiday Stress

Welcome to 7 DAYS OF HOLIDAY YOGA!

With all the shopping, festivities and preparations, the HOLIDAYS can be stressful.  So for the next 7 days, I will be sharing some simple yoga poses and breathing exercises you can do with your child so you can add some fun and relaxation to your busy day!

During the holiday season, it’s important to take some time for yourself to relax for a moment.  Sometimes all you need to do  is STOP…AND…BREATHE

Balloon (or Deep Belly) Breathing is one of the best ways to relax your mind and body. The little yogis I teach LOVE this kind of breathing!  The best part of this breathing exercise is that you can practice it any time your feel stressed or upset.  It sends a message to your brain to relax and helps calm your nervous system.

TRY IT NOW!

Pretend you have an imaginary balloon of any color and any shape and place your hands and your “Balloon” on your belly.

1. Take a deep breath in through your nose and feel your belly rise as your balloon expands.
2. Then slowly exhale as your balloon shrinks back.
3. Repeat this several times, inhaling and feeling your belly rise, then exhaling you breath out.
